- Consultant Anatomic Pathologist and Medical Director, King’s College Hospital Laboratory, Dubai Hills
Dr. Nigel Kirkham graduted in Medicine at the University of Liverpool in 1974. He has extensive experience of Anatomic Pathology having worked in several Teaching Hospitals and large District Hospitals in England. Most recently he was a Director of Pathology in a large multi-national Clinical Research Organisation based In Scotland and involved in the global delivery of Histopathology services to a variety of Phase 2 and Phase 3 cClinical Trials of new therapies undertaken by a variety of Pharma companies.
After graduation he trained in hospitals Liverpool and then at the University of Southampton, where he started his interest in Dermatopathology. He has a major interest in the pathology of malignant melanoma, which was the subject of his MD Thesis, and has published a number of books and chapters in textbooks, as well as contributing to many research papers. He developed training programs in Anatomic Pathology and Continuing Professional Development at the Royal College of Pathologists in the UK, where he was also an Examiner and subsequently Lead Examiner in Histopathology in the Fellowship examinations.
Delivering high quality and timely Clinical and Anatomic Pathology for optimal patient care is the first priority for Dr. Nigel, who works on the basis that every specimen arriving in the Laboratory must be treated as if a patient’s life depended on it. He is the ‘Missing Link’ between the Hospital and the Laboratory, keen to interact with Clinicians and to facilitate the best possible laboratory service to King’s College Hospital. To the National Reference Laboratory, which he joined in August 2019, he will bring his extensive knowledge and experience in Dermatopathology and Renal Biopsy Pathology.
Outside the Hospital he looks forward to exploring the region and to developing his interest in cooking by learning about local dishes new to him.
