Dr. Birgitta A. R. Schmidt

Birgitta A. R Schmidt, M.D., is an assistant professor of Pathology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. She received her M.D. degree from the Karolinska Institute of Medicine, Stockholm, Sweden, in 1986 and completed her anatomic and clinical pathology training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School from 1988 to 1992. She then pursued a fellowship in Dermatopathology at the Harvard Medical School combined training program, becoming board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology.

Dr. Schmidt has a special interest in pigmented lesions in the pediatric age group and has numerous publications in the field of pediatric Dermatopathology. She was awarded the 50th Anniversary Program for Scholars in Medicine Fellowship from Harvard Medical School in 2003 for her work on Spitzoid melanocytic lesions in the pediatric age group. Dr. Schmidt is also part of the combined Harvard Medical School Dermatopathology fellowship program and a regular invited speaker to the Harvard Medical School Dermatopathology CME courses, where she teaches in the subspecialty of pediatric Dermatopathology.
